    Collapse overview
I am a social scientist interested in the individual, interpersonal, and structural level implications of social exclusion in health from an interdisciplinary perspective. During my academic career, I have addressed this via two main research tracks: 1) health disparities and 2) music, culture and community health. Firstly, my health disparities research aims to understand and address how the intersectionality of stigmatized diseases (i.e., serious mental illness, HIV/AIDS, endometriosis) and marginalized identities (i.e., Latinxs, transgender men, and women, older adults) impact the process of health and disease. Secondly, my music, culture, and community health research has focused on understanding how marginalized cultural practices such as music foster community health and social justice, specifically in Latin America and the Caribbean. These interests have been manifested via research, teaching, and service. Other interests include 1) implementation science, 2) application of epistemologies of the south in research, and 3) multi-method approaches.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
