Dr. Horacio Serrano is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.
Dr. Serrano obtained his PhD degree in molecular biology, Magna Cum Laude at the Center of Molecular Biology Severo Ochoa, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid where he defended his thesis entitled: "Development of New Technologies in Second Generation Proteomics and its Application to the Study of Dynamic Changes related to Cardiovascular Dysfunction”.
Dr. Serrano’s areas of interest include proteoviromics in HIV associated with drug use, proteoviromics and HPV-associated cancer, as well as applications of quantitative proteomics in Alzheimer's and rheumatology translational studies.
Dr. Serrano is establishing, in Puerto Rico, quantitative proteomics technology with the use of isotopic la-beling with 18O to study the differential expression of proteom from complex samples such as membrane proteins. Recently, Dr. Serrano is working with quantitative proteomic by chemical demethylation.
