    Dr. Bibiana Mancera earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1996, her Master’s in Education in 2006, and her Ph.D. (2016) in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Dr. Mancera is currently the Director of Community Engagement for the Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC) at UT El Paso. The BBRC is supported by the Research Centers in Minority Institutions Program (RCMI), administered by the National Center for Research Resources at the National Institutes of Health. As the Director of Community Engagement, Dr. Mancera works to create partnerships among researchers and community organizations to disseminate and translate findings emanating from the research projects of the Center. Part of her work includes forming interdisciplinary research collaborations from across UT El Paso to facilitate the translation of bench science to clinical science and ultimately to the community.
    Dr. Mancera has participated in numerous qualitative and quantitative research studies that pertain to intimate partner violence, substance abuse, and high risk sexual behavior among men and women of Mexican origin. She has also published the findings of these studies.

    Her research interest includes: risk and protective factors for intimate partner violence among men and women of Mexican origin, HIV risk factors among men and women of Mexican origin, risk and protective factors that influence the health of Hispanics, specifically Mexican Americans, translational science, community based participatory research, community health worker (promotores) models to promote community engagement among vulnerable populations.
