Sensory Testing and Non-invasive Neurophysiology to Diagnose Large and Small Fiber Neuropathy in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Role Description: Patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) eventually lose their sense of touch, mediated by large Aß nerve fibers. Before this occurs, they lose the sense of warm, cold, and pain, mediated by Ad and C nerve fibers. To improve diagnosis of DPN, we will combine measurement of laser evoked potentials produced by an infrared laser with advanced statistical methods to discover patterns that distinguish patients with DPN from those without neuropathy. Because of potential racial differences and health disparities among Blacks and Whites with DPN, we plan to carry out our study in groups evenly divided between Blacks and Whites.

Neural and Immune Correlates of Painful Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathy, Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of a Motor Cortex Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation Intervention
Role Description: One primary objective (Specific Aim 1) of this study is to determine the feasibility and tolerability of anodal transcranial direct current stimulation of the motor cortex to ameliorate pain in painful chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). The second primary objective (Specific Aim 2) of this study is to determine brain structures in the DPMN whose volume are associated with painful CIPN in non-Hispanic Blacks (NHBs) and non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs). The third primary objective (Specific Aim 2) of this study is to determine functional MRI responses to mechanical and heat pain associated with CIPN in NHBs and NHWs.
    Role: Principal Investigator

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
