    Dr. Mark Miller is Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, UPR School of Medicine and a senior investigator at the Institute of Neurobiology. Dr. Miller obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the University of Connecticut. His postdoctoral studies were conducted at the University of Hawaii, Hebrew University and UCLA. Before joining the UPR Medical Sciences Campus in 1992, he was a Research Associate at Columbia University.
    Dr. Miller’s research focuses on motor systems, neurotransmitters, neuropeptides, and central pattern generators. His research work, which exceeds 50 publications, has been published in recognized scientific journals such as the Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Neurophysiology, and the Journal of Comparative Neurology.
    Funding for his research program has included P01, R01 grants from NINDS-NIH, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Defense, the NIGMS-NIH MBRS Program, and the NCRR-NIH RCMI Program.
    Dr. Miller established a summer course in Tropical Neuroethology (NSF CAREER Award) created to bring talented undergraduate students to Puerto Rico for an intensive five-week research and educa-tional experience. He currently directs the NSF-funded Undergraduate Research Mentoring (URM) program in Neural Circuits and Behavior that provides mentored research training for undergraduates during their junior and senior years. He developed faculty workshops in neuroanatomical methods including Immunohistochemistry and In situ Hybridization and recently organized an international con-ference entitled Molluscan Neuroscience 2009: Recent Advances and New Vistas.
