    We now have two primary projects.
    1- We are studying the host response to infection and the role of specific innate immune host genes/proteins in the response to bacteria that carry different virulence factors. Using CD14-deficient mice we identified CD14 as a primary receptor for LPS and as a critical gene in the response t Gram-negative bacteria. We are now studying the role of CD14 and other innate immune genes in neutrophil recruitment.

    2- We are starting a new project to define interactions between CD14 and brain proteins using yeast 2-hybrid assays with the goal of defining new endogenous ligands for CD14 and roles for CD14 in the brain.

    3- Longterm goals are to extend the above studies (2) to examine the interaction of microbial proteins in the host using the Y2H system.
