overview George Perry is former dean of the College of Sciences and the Semmes Foundation Distinguished University Chair in Neurobiology at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Perry is recognized in the field of Alzheimer’s disease research particularly for his work on oxidative metabolism. Dr. Perry is distinguished as one of the top Alzheimer’s disease researchers with over 1,000 publications, and one of the top 100 most-cited scientists in neuroscience and behavior (Over 116,000 citations, H=170), as well as the Expertscape Leading Expert in Alzheimer’s disease. Perry serves as editor for numerous journals and is Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, International Engineering and Technology Institute, Texas Academy of Sciences, and Microscopy Society of America, a Fulbright Senior Specialist, as well as a member of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives. Perry is also recognized internationally: he is a Foreign Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Science Lisbon, and the Mexican National Academy of Sciences. He is also a recipient of the National Plaque of Honor from the Republic of Panama Ministry of Science and Technology., Rous-Whipple award from American Society for Investigative Pathology, Distinguished Member of the Japanese Society of Neurology. Dr. Perry received his BA in Zoology from the University of California, Santa Barbara followed by his Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He then received a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine where he laid the foundation for his observations of abnormalities in cell structures.
