    Academic Position
    Dr. Ortiz is an Associated Professor at the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology of the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. She joined the institution in August 2004. On June 2007, she was appointed as investigator of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences Program, University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center.

    Education
    Dr. Ortiz completed an MPH and a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is currently also a post-doctoral fellow in Computational
    Genomic Epidemiology of Cancer at Case-Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.

    Area of Research
    Cancer epidemiology.

    Research Experience
    Epidemiologic studies in various areas including: women’s health; breast cancer; HPV and related malignancies; metabolic syndrome, and colorectal cancer.

    Research Funding
    Dr. Ortiz has received research funds from the National Institutes of Health through the NCRR-RCMI program and the RCMI-Clinical Research Center. She is also an investigator of an NCI funded U-54 partnership grant between the University of Puerto Rico and the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Ortiz has also received several educational and non-restricted grants from the pharmaceutical industry.
