    Robert Milk, Professor and Department Chair of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at UTSA, holds Master of Arts degrees in linguistics and in foreign language education, and a PhD in curriculum and teacher education with concentration in bilingual/ cross-cultural education from Stanford University. As a faculty member at UTSA since 1980, he has taught teacher preparation courses in the areas of bilingual education foundations, research and testing, ESL methods, bilingualism, and second language acquisition.

    A former Title VII doctoral fellow (1976-1979), he has directed eleven bilingual educational personnel projects, and served on the Executive Board for Texas Association for Bilingual Education as well as President of the San Antonio Area Association for Bilingual Education. He has also served on various state committees for the Texas Education Agency, including panels for bilingual education certification and Spanish proficiency exams. In 1982, Dr. Milk was recipient of a Fulbright award, serving as Senior Lecturer at various universities in Peru over a five-month period. In 1995, he served as a consultant for the Ministry of Education in Bolivia on implementation of the Educational Reform Bill.

    -Classroom-centered research in bilingual settings
    -Transformative education for marginalized populations
    -Transborder pedagogy

    Among Dr. Milk's publications are numerous chapters in edited volumes as well as articles dealing with bilingualism and education appearing in NABE Journal, TESOL Quarterly, Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, Bilingual Review, Journal of Multilingual Multicultural Development, National Society for the Study of Education Yearbook, and National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education Focus Series. He currently serves on the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism and for Bilingual Research Journal.
