As Professor and Dean of the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work, I have served as a Senior Scientist for RMATRIX-I from September 2012 through June 2013, and currently in the approved one-year cost extension. Responsibilities included strengthening multidisciplinary collaborations; enhancing community-based research; and fostering further examination of the social determinants on health, with attention to cultural factors. As a Native Hawaiian woman, I have a deep investment in the health of Native Hawaiian and other populations who experience disparate health. I have a broad background in social work and cultural competence as it applies to Asian and Pacific populations, and a specific background in community-based research in cancer and aging among Native Hawaiians. As Co-Principal Investigator of RMATRIX-II, I will work towards the successful direction and achievement of the aims and activities through liaison with the NIH/NIMHD Program Official; involvement with the administrative leadership team; enhancement of multidisciplinary partnerships; and oversight of community-based research, especially as these relate to the Native Hawaiian community. My commitment, expertise and experience have prepared me for this role in RMATRIX-II.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
