Leng Chee Chang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, University of Hawaii at Hilo, HI, USA, investigates new cancer chemotherapeutic and cancer chemopreventative agents from plant and microbial natural products. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Natural Products at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During her Ph.D. study, she worked on a research project investigating new cancer chemopreventive agents which were derived from plants. This project was funded as Program Project (P01) grant entitled “Natural Inhibitors of Carcinogenesis” by the National Cancer Institute to Professors A. D. Kinghorn and John M. Pezzuto. She received further training as an Intramural Research Training Award fellow with Dr. Carole A. Bewley, LBC, NIDDK, NIH. Thirteen promising bioactive marine natural products were isolated during her fellowship, nine having novel structures.

Her current research has focused on the evaluation of natural products as cancer chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agents, where promising bioactive natural products may serve as lead compounds for drug design. She have established collaborations with Director of Natural Products and Therapeutic Program, UH Cancer Center, Dr. James Turkson, in the area of STAT3 as cancer therapeutic target; Dean College of Pharmacy, Dr. John M. Pezzuto, in the area of plant-derived cancer chemopreventative agents.

She has more than fifteen years of experience as a researcher in natural products chemistry. Her research results have appeared in: Journal of Natural Products, Organic Letters, Planta Medica, Tetrahedron, and Bioorganic Medicinal Chemistry Letters.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
