    Collapse overview
I am a pediatrician who participated as Principal Investigator of one of Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trial Group (PACTG) research sites from 1999-2002. As part of this effort, I developed skills in therapy administration for pediatric AIDS clinical trials. I was the Co-Principal Investigator of a pilot project from Retrovirus Research Center known as ASUMA project. This in was an HIV prevention program for early adolescents and their parents. Also, I was Principal Investigator of an individual pilot project funded by the Puerto Rico Comprehensive Center for Study of HIV Disparities (PR-CCHD) that studies communication about sexuality between HIV positive mothers and their adolescent’s daughters. This effort leads the development of a dyad communication about sexuality scale culturally sensitive for the Puerto Rican population. Currently, I am the Co-Principal Investigator of the Data Management and Statistical Research Support Unit (DMSRSU). I am the Principal Investigator of a community-based participatory research intervention for the prevention of HIV for Puerto Rican women funded by the Puerto Rico Clinical and Translational Research Consortium (PRCTRC). I am also an Associate Professor at Universidad Central del Caribe, School of Medicine (UCC). As part of my academic duties, I impart some lectures in the Clinical Research course for medical students. I have been a member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) since 2002; this experience had increased my knowledge in investigational techniques and the regulatory requirements for Research in Human Subjects. I am also a research advocate for the key function of the Regulatory and Knowledge Unit of the PRCTRC. Actually, I am a chairperson for the IRB of Comprehensive Cancer Center of the UPR.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
