overview Research summary Using the Drosophila model system, we are interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying hematopoietic cancer and inflammation. Our recent interest has focused on sumoylation, a conserved, post-translational protein modification mechanism in eukaryotes. Loss of sumoylation results in aberrant immune signaling, development of hematopoietic microtumors, and chronic inflammation. We are also actively engaged in identifying virulence factors produced by parasitic wasps that interfere with innate immune signaling and inflammation in Drosophila.
