Dr. Acosta Pérez is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Community Services of the Center for Evaluation and Sociomedical Research, Graduate School of Public Health (dsc-cies.org) and a Researcher at the Behavioral Sciences Research Institute (bsri.rcm.upr.edu), and the Puerto Rico Clinical and Translational Research Consortium (prctrc.rcm.upr.edu) all at the Medical Science Campus, University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Acosta-Pérez received a PhD in psychology at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus in 2005 (social-community) with a minor on HIV/AIDS prevention research (Minority Fellowship Program). She also completed a post-doctoral master in Clinical Research from the School of Medicine and the School of Health Professions at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus (Postdoctoral Fellow of the NIH Clinical Research Education and Career Development in Minority Institutions RFA-AR-01-009). Dr. Acosta was certified as a Community Based Participatory Researcher by the University of New México in Summer 2015, with Dr. Nina Wallerstein. These experiences allowed the development of critical understanding of the conceptual focus of intervention strategies in research. She has been involved in health prevention services research and intervention efforts throughout her career in topics such as: HIV, Gender issues, Violence, Sexuality, Mental Health, Asthma, and Obesity. Currently, Dr. Acosta is the co-leader of the Office of Community Research and Engagement of the Puerto Rico Clinical and Translational Research Consortium (U54 RR026139; 8U54MD 007587-03) and Coordinator of the Community Research Initiative of Puerto Rico Alliance for the Advancement of Biomedical Research Excellence (5P20GM103475) where she promotes community-campus partnerships and collaborations as models for promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research. Also, Dr. Acosta-Pérez is director/evaluator of several research-services projects, such like: 1. Youth Prevention Program 2. Puni Ke Ola pilot project: Culture-as-intervention in drug prevention 3.
