overview Dr. Esther A. Torres obtained her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the San Juan Veteran’s Administration Medical Center and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the UPR and affiliated hospitals. She is Professor of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where she was Division Chief of Gastroenterology and Training Program Director and Chair of Medicine. Dr. Torres is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She is a Master of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology, a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases,member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the Asociación Puertorriqueña de Gastroenterología. Dr. Torres has 90 peer reviewed publications and 138 scientific presentations. She directs the UPR Gastroenterology Research Unit. Dr. Torres has a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and was instrumental in establishing the UPR Center for IBD, which she directs.
