overview I am a Professor in Pharmacy Practice and a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (registered pharmacist and preceptor in Texas) with a practice site at the Houston Methodist Hospital. I have more than 19 years of clinical experience with managing older adults with complex medication regimens in the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center geriatrics clinic. I was trained in health disparities research in the NIH-funded TSU Center of Excellence in Health Disparities Research program. I served as the P.I. of four (4) awards related to patient-centered outcome research for the minority communities (predominantly AA) funded by PCORI, DHHS, and CMS, and published at least six (6) indexed articles in community engagement and patient-centered research studies. I had experience designing health disparity studies using quantitative analysis of secondary data from the national V.A. database, qualitative methods utilizing thematic analysis, patient-engagement strategies using the PCORI patient engagement framework, and health services interventions in the AA communities. I am currently the Director of the Investigator Development Core of the Center for Biomedical and Health Disparities Research (CBMHR), funded by NIH NIMHD U54 (MD007605-27A1).
