overview As the current activity director of the Technologies and Resources for Core (TRC) Laboratories within the Meharry Translational Research Center, Director of the MMC Morphology Core and an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology, I am uniquely qualified to provide managerial and logistical oversight for the TRC. Under the umbrella of the TRC, my team and I established the Proteomics Core Facility, which previously did not exist at Meharry. Additionally, in 2006, I successfully implemented the Meharry Morphology Core, and it is has become the model on which we base the Proteomics Core operations. For the second round of funding we are proposing to add the Morphology Core and the Microarray-Bioinformatics Core to the TRC, while continuing with the success of the Proteomics Core and strengthening our collaborative efforts inside and outside the institution. With the addition of the Morphology Core to the TRC, I will bring with me 16 years of microscopy experience. In addition to my current duties with the TRC, I will be involved in consultation on experimental design, training on microscopes, data analysis, troubleshooting technical difficulties, overseeing educational workshops and seminars relating to microscopy. In addition, I will be consulting with investigators and their trainees as they plan microscopy based experiments to insure proper technological approaches and data analysis methods. Moreover, I will be instrumental in the planning, data acquisition, and data analysis stages of the supported projects, with an emphasis on the elements that relate to microscopy. This effort is necessary to ensure quick and reliable data acquisition and analysis for grants and publications. The TRC provides an invaluable resource to Meharry and will also allow my team and I to keep our internal research community up to date with the latest technology via seminars, journal clubs, and monthly round-table meetings.
