Primary research interests are in the area of nutrition and health disparities with the focus on diabetes, and obesity. Current work includes: 1) Identifying dietary behavior intervention tools that address nutrition literacy and improve diabetes self-management in under-resourced communities; 2) Establishing the validity and reliability of dietary intake assessment methods for low literacy patients; and 3) Examining the unique role of nutrition literacy in predicting eating patterns, and identifying characteristics associated with low nutrition literacy in at-risk population.
