overview Dr. Becker is an environmental toxicologist with research focused on mercury neurotoxicology, acute chemical exposure and chemical preparedness. He worked as a toxicologist within the Florida Department of Health in pesticide and chemical surveillance related to acute and chronic exposure from 2003-2008, and was also involved in preparedness issues chemical terrorism, human risk assessment and toxicology consultation. He also works on the National Academy of Sciences, Acute Guideline Exposure Levels of Hazardous Substances from 2006-2012, which evaluates and reviews risk assessment data and literature to determine acute as well as chronic effects of chemical related to human exposure. He is as Co-Investigator on the Agency for Toxic Substances Grant entitled “Racial and Ethnic Environmental Approaches to Community Health” (REEACH), 2009-2012 involved in community outreach involving presenting risk assessment information to the community leaders and residents. He also works with the Department of Health’s Environmental Tracking Program to develop an environmental epidemiology study to look at disease in the community associated with hazardous waste sites. He also does basic research related to the Research Center Minority Institutions, Neurodegeneration Section.
