overview Dr. Mary Jo Trepka is a Professor and the Chair of the Department of Epidemiology, Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at FIU. She is an infectious disease epidemiologist who focuses on the role of social determinants in health disparities in HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. Currently, she is studying the role of patient-centered HIV care and women-centered HIV care in helping people with HIV to be retained in HIV care and virally suppressed despite psychosocial barriers. She is also leading a study about the influence of the COVID-19 Pandemic on people living with HIV. Trained by the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service, she has led infectious disease surveillance and disease control efforts at both the state and local levels.
